Indigenous Peoples of the Coastal Bend

Welcome

Indigenous Peoples of the Coastal Bend is an intertribal community group in Corpus Christi Texas.

Peoples of the Area

Though our group is made up different lineages.

We would like to honor the peoples who lived in so called Corpus Christi off the Nueces River, Karankawa, Lipan Apache, (Nde) Comanche, Tonkawa and Coahuiltecan (Pamaque).

About us:

We came together in 2016 when our city had a series of water boils, which was associated with the fossil fuel industry.

In 2018, we begin advocating for Indigenous Rights, and received our first proclamation honoring the Indigenous Tribes of the Coastal Bend.

In 2019, we received another proclamation, Indigenous Peoples Day, which would proclaim every 2nd Monday in October as such. Our mission is to preserve, conserve, and cultivate our culture in the Coastal Bend area, where all our ancestors once lived together.
